New 2010 Building Regulations Advances Low Energy Ventilation
Airflow has long been working towards a low energy product portfolio with its
eco-air range of extract fans, continuous extract and Ventilation with
Heat Recovery products. The introduction of new Building Regulations Approved Documents F and L in April 2010 (to come into force on 1st October 2010) confirm the necessity to further reduce carbon emissions from dwellings towards a carbon- zero home by 2016.
The new regulations and their associated compliance guides detail many significant changes in Ventilation techniques and product technology. Included is a reduction in the Dwelling Emission Rate (DER) by imposing a tighter air permeability rate of 5 m3hr/m2 at 50 Pascals and introducing for the first time a new maximum Specific Fan Power (SFP) for intermittent extract fans of 0.5 w/l/sec. Other first time introductions require on-site, commissioning, sound level limits.
John Kelly, Marketing Manager at Airflow comments, "We welcome the new revisions to the Building Regulations. Our policy of providing our customers with innovative ventilation solutions means we already have low voltage iCON fans and the QuietAir extract fan range with an SFP of only 0.24 w/l/sec at just 25 dB(A). Additionally our Airovent central extract ventilation units and Duplexvent ventilation with Heat Recovery units are both Energy Savings Trust "Best Practice" rated on the SAP Appendix Q eligibility web site listing. Indeed at 94% heat recovery the Duplexvent is one of the best performing and compact units available "anywhere".
A continuous product development programme ensures that Airflow provide ventilation that exceeds the expectations of the latest regulations before they are enforced enabling specifiers to plan ahead and choose Airflow in the knowledge that they are selecting "Future Proof Ventilation" to comply with 2010 and beyond.
