That’s why we’re committed to integrating sustainability into every aspect of our operations, from reducing our environmental footprint and minimising waste to enhancing energy efficiency, collaborating with responsible suppliers, and supporting local community initiatives.

Airflow is committed to playing an active role in reducing environmental impact across our operations:

Reduce our Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040, using 2022 as our baseline year.
Actively working toward a Scope 3 net-zero target, putting the tools and relationships in place to support this transition.

Sustainability strategy

To invest in our sustainability impact, we continue to introduce new and evolving strategies internally, across client relationships and within our community.

Reducing our carbon footprint

We’re actively transitioning to lower-emission transport across our fleet and operations. Our growing green fleet includes plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), fully electric vehicles (BEVs), electric forklifts in our warehouse and a hybrid field support vehicle, with accessible EV charging points on-site.

We also have an official Travel Plan in collaboration with Buckinghamshire Council, supported by PJA consultancy, and approved and accredited by Modeshift STARs to continue to promote greener commuting among our team.

Investing in sustainable ventilation solutions

We’re committed to embedding sustainability at every stage of product development, from ethical sourcing and material selection to end-of-life considerations:

Conducting Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) of our products to provide transparent data on their full lifecycle impact.
Actively exploring the use of recycled plastics in our products to reduce reliance on virgin materials.
Sourcing packaging that is recycled, low-impact, lightweight, and fully recyclable.
Supporting the responsible disposal of our products with clear end-of-life instructions and a free returns service to ensure responsible disposal.

As a proud member of the Passivhaus Trust, we offer certified MVHR systems that meet the highest standards for energy efficiency and sustainability in the built environment.

As Gold Members of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, we reflect our commitment to continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and raising standards across our supply chain.

Investing in local sustainability

We believe meaningful impact comes from collaboration. That’s why we’re actively involved in the local Sustainability Breakfast Group, part of our local Business Improvement District (BID) committee, where we regularly share ideas and best practices with neighbouring organisations.

Airflow office sustainability

We’re investing in cleaner energy solutions and improving the efficiency of our buildings to reduce environmental impact.

Current office sustainability efforts:

Our head office is powered by a 108-panel, 28kW solar PV system, with surplus energy fed back into the local grid.
We operate on a 100% renewable electricity tariff.
Installed thermodynamic panels for water heating, with office heating managed by timers.
All windows have been upgraded with new seals and insulating film.
We operate one air source heat pump and seven MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) systems to improve both air quality and energy efficiency.

Planned sustainable office upgrades:

Replacing some gas boilers with zonal underfloor heating
Switching portions of fluorescent lighting to motion-sensor LED lighting
Installing a Building Management System (BMS) with smart controls
Adding cavity wall insulation to external walls
Insulating the pitched roof with water-based Icynene spray foam
Installing more MVHR systems, air source heat pumps, and motion-sensor zonal LED lighting, all to be monitored and controlled by the BMS.

Sustainability through reuse and recycling

We've implemented a comprehensive waste management system that complies with Simpler Recycling regulations and focuses on diverting waste from landfills. This includes proper segregation of office waste and returned products, with recovered printed circuit boards sent to The Royal Mint for precious metal recovery, and staff-collected crisp packets donated to the Iron Man Initiative in Frome, where they're transformed into blankets for homeless individuals.

Our sustainability commitment extends beyond waste management to our physical workspace. When creating our office breakout area, we prioritised sourcing second-hand furniture locally, reducing waste while minimising the environmental impact of manufacturing and shipping new items.
